Weekly Drawing Challenge: Jan 11 2016

The goal of weekly challenge is to invite beginners and others to draw a simple landscape weekly. Templates are provided that can be printed and used to practice drawing.  By doing these simple landscapes, I hope that people with connect with their creative side and take up drawing landscapes with pen and ink as a creative and relaxing hobby.

Following is the drawing for this week and steps in drawing it. The template provided at the end contains all the steps.  Please look at tutorials for detailed instruction on how to draw various elements in this week’s drawing.

Step 1: Following is the outline of the landscape that we will be drawing this week.

Step 2: First, initial shading of tree trunk, branches and wooden post is done.

Step 3: Darks are added to the shading to bring out the volume.

Step 4: Tree Foliage is added.

Step 5: Distant Foliage is added

Step 6: Grass is added. This finishes the landscape. You can add clouds and sky as well if you prefer.

Click here to download PDF that contains each of the above steps. You can choose to draw all the elements from step 1 or even print and draw from another step. The drawing will print at approximately 6.5 by 5 inches on legal paper, the size of original drawing.
